Well,
I got the notice earlier this week that my 02 would ship on Wednesday and get to my house on Friday. It left Singapore as scheduled. I was a little worried that it might get tied up at the Memphis location in the "international" destination holding area. It spent all of 1hour there and FEDEX actually tried to deliver it on Thursday! I picked it up Thursday night from my local FEDEX location and I was happy and on my way.
I had been trying to contact the OQO wireless s
W-Eee :) I'm now officially one of the coolest kids on the block! I'm typing this post on my Asus 701 (Eee)...
I've quietly been keeping an eye on the Eee since it was announced a few months ago. After all, who's not interested in a $399 ultra-portable sub-notebook?
Not to mention, it's a particularly interesting device if, like me, you're a blogger on-the-go, especially with the built-in webcam.
After using it for less than 24 hours I'm pretty impressed, and so are others, apparently. Th

This morning I popped my 02 out of it's docking cradle, played with it for a few moments, then the keyboard went dead. Totally DEAD. The track stick still moves the cursor, but no keypress registers, nor do the lights light up on Fn, CTL, ALT or SHIFT. Teck support had me run through a few things, but then issued an RMA for repair. External keyboard still works.
Anyone else have this problem?
This is a really interesting, and timely addition to the "Handtops as a Consumer Electronic Device" idea. http://www.handtops.com/blog/170/0/Handtops_as_consumer_electronics.html Here we have a bunch of wearable and compact devices that are a bit outside the box. http://www.techeblog.com/index.php/tech-gadget/video-intel-future-of-umpcs
It is nice to see a company like Intel doing some free thinking, and bodes well for the future of UMPC's in general.
The last two years have brought sharply into focus for me a burning question, not 'who makes the perfect handtop?", but rather 'what would constitute the perfect handtop?'.
Having lived with a variety of cell phones, an OQO, a Flipstart and a couple of smaller laptops, all of which I use in various different ways, it has become apparent that, for me at least, there is no single 'perfect' device, and that at very least I would have to have two units to fulfill all my requirements. The fi
The forums are all about the 02 now. And the blogs have been about the 02 too! So where have all the 01 users gone? I still prefer the 01 over the 02. Anybody done any mods, anything? 01 users speak up!
The dust is settling, and the horizon is again in view, but the short term outlook is not as pretty as might have been expected some six months ago. In the short term at least, until Intel releases Menlow with the Silverthorne CPU, we can expect the majority of Handtop and UMPC devices to be constrained to an extent with low performance CPU's.
While there are some notable exceptions to the low powered CPU rule, the Sony UX at present being the most outstanding of these, the writing was on th
The 'genius' of Jobs is to take other people's work, brand it Apple then market the crap out of it to the mainstream (read: those oblivious of the Industry) as a new creation. This clearly works for them (8.7Million iphones last quarter) and shows the mainstream are made of really dumb people.

The OQO Model 02 has landed... It has been anticipated for months, but it's here, in my dirty little hands!
Enjoy the unboxing pictures, complete with 'bento box' notes and first boot. Now I'm off dealing with Sprint for the SERO discount :)

Thanks to my faceless friends here I stopped obsessing and ordered my OQO-2 today. I'm sure I'll find something else to obsess about soon enough, but for now...
I ordered Best with Vista Business with Verizon (I think Verizon has better coverage in my area.)
I went with Vista for the supposed better security and possible benefits from features like SmartFetch, ReadyBoost. I also did not relish the thought of deciding to upgrade to Vista with XP installed. OS upgrades are not always a fun
Samsung has released the new Q1 Ultra UMPC/Handtop today. You might remember the Samsun Q1 which was released last year as a UMPC. The Q1 Ultra ups the ante by including a split QWERTY keypad, increased battery life, LED backlit LCD and other upgrades.

[*] 1GB DDR2 RAM
[*] Split QWERTY keyboard
[*] 802.11 b/g

Question for current OQO users: I can see thumb typing or tablet style use when standing or sitting not at a table. I am wondering about the experience of using the OQO if you are seated at a table or desk. Is the fixed & flat position of the screen uncomfortable in that type of setting? It would seem setting it down on a surface is not a practical way to use it. Anyone care to comment?
Perhaps this is a touch too big for some people to be called a handtop, but it's a tempting looking device with a bevy of connectivity options.
[*] 7-inch widescreen display
[*] 30-gigabyte hard drive
[*] QWERTY keyboard
[*] Microsoft Vista Business OS
[*] Windows Media Player 11
[*] Tri-Band UMTS/HSDPA
[*] Quad-Band GSM/GPRS/EDGE
[*] WiFi and Bluetooth 2.0
